To my dear friend, the best woman in the world (which happens to have decent musical taste too) from all my heart : HAPPY BIRTHDAY !!!

A year ago we were about to celebrate it here in Santiago Bay, what an unforgetable event it was !! Very Happy

The country still remembers it...

For days afterward in February 2009 here in the cool blue northern tundra we read, by flickering lantern light, the numerous translated-from-Spanish newspaper columns about the Rose's Chilean birthday bash. There were colorful if blurred photos published on the web, tales of long-haired huasos riding down from the great valleys to partake of the wine and entwine the Rose in their mad swirling zamacuecas. Yes, there were the embroidered reminiscences of young Pisco-fueled romantics gathering 'round her to read the poems of the charming Neruda, the defiant Mistral, and the great Jimmy MacCarthy. At midnight a stranger with a mandolin wandered in from Valparaiso, saying nothing, and the local sisters of Sun, Hope and Joy whispered of his crooked mouth, saying it was Boca Chueca, and that only the Rose's powers could have brought him to that village on that particular evening. Even the followers of Father Ignacio shook their heads sadly, admitting, with some reticence, that the country would never fully recover, that a revolution had begun that would bring not only Chile but the entire continent of the southern Americas to its knees in the rescued joy of a dream deferred. How could this year's birthday possibly compare? We shall have to enable a new legend to begin, call the road bowlers down from the rain-puddle car washes of the Conor Pass, have them round up the musicians from among the Travelers at the bright Chipper in Tralee and the wailing balladeers from Murphy's in Dingle, and Seamus Begley from his pub along the Aire Go Mall highway, that they might together bring thee a song perched precariously on the canal-sweetened air while the night gallops on its shadowy mare, shedding blue tassels over the land, convincing the blushing football-mad Rose of the regal charm of her flesh and blood and bone, as the voices rise against the moon, illuminate the jewels of the Strand, and sing, soft as the southwind blows, of the geek with the alchemist's stone...
